Wyman Terrace

Located in the Presidio of San Francisco, a former army base and an urban national park site at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, is the Wyman Terrace, the world’s first community to be certified under LEED for Neighborhood Development. The first “green” neighborhood is located on a mixed-use 36-acre site that features housing units, office spaces, a preschool, hiking trails, scenic views toward the Pacific, and 25 acres of open space and natural habitat. Built between 1915 and 1932, the Wyman Terrace is comprised of single-family and duplex housing formerly providing residence to army doctors. After years of being unoccupied, the units suffered from vandalism and water damage. The project entailed the federal-funded rehabilitation of seven residences providing eleven new housing units. Units range from 1,700sf to 3,300sf, with three, four and five rooms. The rehabilitation was highly sustainable; ninety-five percent of the existing materials and finishes were retained and rehabilitated.
